Our Materials
Versatta takes great pride in our workmanship. And the foundation is quality materials, picked with care and consideration.
Leather
Unless otherwise noted in the product description, all Versatta products are made with real leather. When properly cared for, genuine leather lasts far longer – and wears better – than any of the current alternative materials. While we watch the development of non-petroleum leather alternatives with interest, none have reached our standards for full scale use. At the moment, real leather, as a byproduct of food production, balances quality and environmental concerns best. We may occasionally stock a leather alternative for small batches of accessories, but it will be clearly labeled in the product description.
Wool
We exclusively use an acrylic-based wool substitute. There is no real wool in our products. We do this for three reasons: Many people are allergic or sensitive to wool. Wool is quite expensive. And wool is not the most temperature friendly material for everyday wear. With these factors in combination, it just isn't feasible for us to produce wool kilts. (We don't have anything against ethical wool practices, it's just the logistics above.)
Fur
As a California-based company, we are restricted by law from selling products with fur, with the exception of cow, sheep, goat, and deer.
